The purpose of this blog is to share our adventures as we have this incredible year abroad. Part of that is the everyday life experience made wonderful by just being in another country. I will not be apologetic as I write a gushing post about my son as he celebrates his 6th birthday today. For Josh and I, we marvel at the fact that we no longer have any “little” kids, that we have managed to be responsible for him for six whole years!
I know that every (Jewish) mom thinks that her son is the sparkling jewel of the world. I don’t want to start any fights. I will also not brag too much about his brilliance, athletic prowess or gorgeousness. The secret sauce of Noah is that he is a real feeler. We joke in the family that we have three logical robots and one irrational human being. This is, of course, a silly generalization. But, Noah really has amazing highs and dramatic lows. His enthusiasm is unmatched and when he is happy, there is nothing better. Nobody laughs harder, smiles bigger or yells louder in the family.
When I was six, I moved across the country to Los Angeles with my family. At that time, I thought that was pretty big league. Noah has me beat! I know that I have mentioned in prior posts how flexible and easy going the kids have been. But, Noah, who (until today) was a five year old, really blows me away. So, when we had to plan a birthday celebration without friends, family or the familiar around, we wanted to be sure he had a special day.
We went to a park and he rode a crazy bike; we went to the Automobile Museum. We almost got stuck in a huge afternoon thunderstorm. We ate Mexican food which was almost authentic. And, as we do in the US, we ate a delicious homemade cake baked and built by Josh. It was a good day. But, the best part about it was watching Noah absorb it all with his signature smile. Year six might just be his best yet.
