Jet Lag, Small Hotel Rooms + Other Travel Glories

There is a time on every holiday when a vacation call feel like work. Sometimes that moment pops up after traveling for a long time (many weeks) or a long flight. We had a shining moment last night. In London, hotel rooms, like in NYC are teeny-tiny boxes. We are in a beautiful little hotel in Soho, which has a kitchenette and really nice bath products. They managed to wedge two twin beds into the room, flanking our big king bed. But, the jet lag monster arrived last night and the kids were up past midnight.

All I wanted to do was start season 4 of Orange is the New Black after a day of touring. Josh and I did as so many parents do; we hunkered together over my laptop sharing earbuds with all the lights off as the kids were supposed to sleep soundly. Very romantic. Those dang kids didn’t fall asleep for the whole episode! I wound up having to read two additional chapters of The BFG. They feel asleep promptly at 12:17am, two minutes before I did. Oy vey.

Please note, I am not complaining. I actually love the feeling of sharing one little room with my family. It is nice to wake up and be able to roll over and see the kids.

Today was bright and shiny. We bought postcards and went to see Matilda in the West End. I just hope tonight I get to watch Orange is the New Black in peace.
